Last week I told you about my family’s Vegas Vacation, {read Part 1 here and Part 2 here}!
Here’s more on our trip…
It was the last day of our Vegas Vacation and we were going to make the best of our family time! We decided to skip the big breakfast (probably still full from the night before) and grab some Starbucks on the way over to the Hoover Dam. It’s about a 40 minute drive to Boulder City from Last Vegas.
The Hoover Dam, sits on the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between Arizona and Nevada. So technically we also visited Arizona during our trip…SCORE! :)
Wanna see a pic of my gorgeous family?
Here are their smiling faces– pretending it wasn’t 110 degrees out. Sadly though, it was!
We walked around the outside of the dam for a little bit and quickly turned around and made our way to the car. Most of the experience was outdoors (we didn’t want to spend time on the tour) and honestly the hottest place on earth is the border of Nevada and Arizona, or so it seemed that day.
The dam is very impressive, and to think so many lives were lost building it back in the 30’s, we were so happy to have been able to take it in.
Time to make a stop for some lunch, and then go to the most ‘must see’ tourist spot in Vegas. The Pawn Stars shop of course! We are big fans of the show (thanks to my husband) so it was really cool to stop by and see it in person!
There was actually a line with velvet ropes outside the door. They were nice enough to provide misters to keep the crowd cool {take note Hoover Dam people}. The line went by quickly as the staff let groups of people in the shop.
The shop looks pretty much like it does on TV, however because the ‘stars’ weren’t there, there was memorabilia of the show all over the place. ALL OVER! You can get all sorts of Pawn Stars stuff at the shop. The kids love the show so it was a a great treat for them. Another fun and FREE thing to in Vegas with the family!
So last time I told you how I had one of the best meals of my life, well today it was the kid’s turn! After dinner we headed out to the strip to the Planet Hollywood hotel. In this beautiful hotel you’ll find the Miracle Mile Shops. It’s a FULL blown mall, inside the hotel. Have mercy! We made our way through the shops to the Sugar Factory.
The Sugar Factory is an amazing candy shop, sundae bar, and every sugary sweet thing in between!
We got there and were greeted by the very sweet (pun intended) and very professional Manager, Justin. He walked us through the store, showed us where to find everything and then let the kids loose in his store {brave}.
Thanks Justin {in the black shirt}!
One of the best things {in my grown-up} opinion was the Milkshake Bar. They had so many delicious shakes to choose from!
My little guy is blowing out a candle that comes standard on the ‘Make a Wish’ milkshake.
Then, there was my personal favorite, the “Barbie”. What? I’m partial to it for some reason.
So pretty and pink!
The kids ultimate favorite was the Sugar Factory’s uber famous Couture Pop.
The Couture Pop is not only adorable {hello, bling!} and so very delicious, but it’s refillable! Wha? Yup–once you’re done with your tasty treat, you can keep the handle, and get a refill pop! You can stop by one of their shops, OR you can order online. Couture and convenient! Seriously these were a big hit with my kiddos!
You can buy all sorts of candies, including chocolate!
For the adults, they also offer “Candy Cocktails” at the bar. The Hubs and I got to try one of those but after finishing up the kid’s milkshakes, dipping into their candy buckets, and making our way through the chocolate candies, we couldn’t even make a dent! We did get to keep the pretty (and BIG) glass as a souvenir and you can too when you visit! I’m using mine as a candy dish!
I highly recommend the Sugar Factory. If you’re in Vegas, you’ve got to go to the Sugar Factory. We also heard that there will be a new store opening up soon in Hollywood, CA (hey that’s my neck of the woods!). Music to my ears! Can’t wait to stop by and refill our pretty Couture Pops!
The grown ups we’re so tired after this long yet super fun day. The kids, on the other hand would’ve stayed up all night (thanks candy) if we let them! We ended our trip there and headed back to the hotel, to get ready for our journey home the next morning.
All in all we had an amazing FAMILY time in Las Vegas!
If you are looking for a new spot to take your family on a trip, I recommend Las Vegas. Yes it’s considered an ‘adults playground’, but what they don’t tell you is that there is so much for families to do! We didn’t have time to do everything we wanted, but here are a few spots on our wish list that we will be saving for our next trip:
Kid Friendly Things To Do In Las Vegas:
The Adventuredome Theme Park at Circus Circus
Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage
Cirque du Soleil shows {practically all of them}
Other shows such as:
The Blue Man Group
Magic shows and more!
As with anywhere you take your kids, practice ‘common sense’ and you will be just fine.
Overall our vacation was so much fun. More than anything we saw or did, we spent time laughing and giggling, and taking in the sights together as a family. Priceless.
This was a last minute sort of thrown together trip, and we made it work. Next summer we can plan out a longer trip and do more exploring of Las Vegas-family style!
Where did your family go this summer?
Thanks for coming along for the ride! This is part of the Vegas Vacation {Family Style} series, read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
