This has been a busy holiday season already for me. I’ve trimmed my tree, made some holiday decor, and even planned a handmade gift, and Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet!
I am really excited about the holidays this year, in case you couldn’t tell! I can’t wait to get the house fully decorated for Christmas. I continue to work on holiday crafts and planning all through the month, and while most will spend Black Friday at the stores, I will be up to my ears in tinsel and glitter! I.Love.IT!
Most of us that love to get crafty really look forward to the holidays, but with so much on our plates it can get overwhelming! From planning ahead to repurposing, there are several ways for stress free Christmas tree trimming.
Plan Ahead:
Are you using last year’s color scheme, or revamping the whole thing? Will your tree be real or artificial? Where will you place your tree this year? These are just some of the important questions to ask yourself early in the season. In fact you could start thinking about these things in late October or early November.
Shopping:
Try to shop for everything at just one store if possible, and if you could, be there at off peak hours, you will come out ahead! I decided to change my entire holiday decor scheme this year which means that my blue and silver ornaments of year’s past were just not going to work with the new rustic and red look. I decided to head to Michaels on Halloween in the late afternoon to shop for my new ornaments and trim. Yes, their employees greeted me in full costumes, but their Christmas decorations where already out, and some of them were already on sale! Other than myself and a small handful of customers, the store was practically empty as most people were getting ready for Halloween. I beat the crowds and had an ample selection to choose from peacefully!
Think Outside the Box:
You started to plan early so you can get creative. If you like the look of garland, use thick ribbon instead for a different look. I bought extra thick nylon ribbon with the phrase ‘Happy Holidays’ on it and ran it vertically on my tree.
I also used ribbon to top off some scented pine cones as rustic ornaments. More unique ideas: wrap cinnamon sticks in red and white twine, and hang directly on the tree. Also pick up a package of glass ornaments and fill them with excelsior or even some more ribbon!
Dab a mason jar lid with some Mod Podge, dip it in glitter and tie some twine at top. Easy DIY ornament!
Most importantly—relax and enjoy the season! Bake holiday cookies, savor hot cocoa, and remember that this is a time for family and being together!
