Since we bought this house back in August I’ve really been forced by my husband trying to make a conscious effort to keep costs down and make use of what I have, rather than buy new stuff. This has made me get creative with paint and old furniture–when I do buy ‘new’ stuff for the house it usually comes from a thrift store or garage sale of some sort!
A couple of weeks ago I shared the finally finished gallery wall in my stairway. I threw it together by just using some of the kid’s pics and painting their existing frames in the same shade of blue for fluidity (and to satisfy my undying love and devotion to my favorite color). I paired it up with a splash of sunny yellow to add some interest!
Although I liked the overall look, I just knew it could use some ‘curviness’ to compliment the round wooden plates that are nestled in the middle.
So I searched my garage for something I could use to keep my husband happy with my cost saving efforts. Lo and behold..actually it was up high on a shelf (ha!) I found this spare wooden leg belonging to my now 4 year old’s, old crib!

Especially with these holes on the ends–they were begging for some sort of frame and mattress. Errr, no.
So I began the crib leg makeover by using some Elmer’s wood filler to take care of that..I didn’t care much about the holes on the bottom or any other not-to-be-seen areas (I do that a lot!).
With some leftover blue paint from the frames (Krylon Global Blue), I sprayed a couple coats and distressed it to look like it’s been around a while. That’s my style crush these days…just the right amount of ‘worn and tired’ adds some fabulous character in my opinion–call me crazy!
I love the bright and fun color combination!Really excited that the stairway is coming together-two walls down, one to go!

That is so creative! I would never have thought to use part of the crib. I love how the gallery wall turned out!
