Repurposed Soda Bottle
Hello friends! You know I’m all about repurposing, and I think summer is the perfect time to experiment with new craft ideas. While repurposing a soda bottle isn’t a brand new concept, you can use your imagination to make any craft original. Your kids can help you with this one; I used an empty Dr Pepper plastic bottle to make a cute votive holder!
Repurposed Soda Bottle
Materials:
12 oz. soda bottle (empty and squeaky clean)
(Dr Pepper is my all time fave, so 1 picked up a 6 pack at Walmart)
Serrated Knife
Sharp scissors
(I highly recommend the Fiskars Amplify)
Craft paint
Foam applicator
Twine
Glue Gun/Glue Stick
Directions:
Remove the label from the bottle.
Cut the soda bottle in half using the serrated knife. Go over it again with the scissors for more precise and smooth edges.
Using the foam applicator paint the outside of the bottle in your favorite acrylic paint color. I chose silver to keep it classy :) Apply 2-3 coats allowing dry time in between (a blow dryer also works).
Wrap twine around the top and middle edges, about 3x around each, securing it with the hot glue.
I added a little ‘handle’ by gluing twine on each end, and tied simple bows, but you can embellish it with anything you like!
Remember this is a PLASTIC bottle, so for safety, use electric candles, or fill it with a treat instead!
Head on out to your backyard or the park and set up a picnic with your new soda bottle craft! I also picked up a Coleman picnic table cloth and dishwasher safe bowl, and a couple of boxes of Cheez-It Snack Mix at Walmart along with some more Dr Pepper. These are staples around here, and it makes for a tasty afternoon snack.
Yummy!
You can use your new Repurposed Soda Bottle craft many times throughout the year. If painted in bright colors, I think these would make a cute addition to a kid’s birthday party table too!
Have you ever repurposed a soda bottle? What soda bottle craft ideas can you come up with?
