Reindeer Romp at the LA Zoo

Hey friends! How was your holiday weekend? Did you get everything you wanted?  We had a great time! My family spent a fun day at home that included a hike on a nearby trail, followed by dinner and a quiet night at home after our church’s annual Christmas Eve service. The kids opened their gifts and went to bed happy as can be!  Then on Christmas morning we headed to my in-laws house for a full day of fun and even more presents.  We truly are a blessed bunch! The celebrations didn’t end there though, the following day we headed out to L.A. to visit its wildest holiday tradition–the Reindeer Romp at the L.A. Zoo!

Nestled in the middle of picturesque Griffith Park, the L.A. Zoo has something for everyone, and we love it!  We are still high on holiday spirit so topping off the celebrations with real reindeer was just perfect and they can only be found at the Reindeer Romp!

The live reindeer are making the L.A. Zoo their home for the holidays! They are set up daily in their all-new Reindeer Village, where there are fun photo ops, and interesting facts about Santa’s favorite furry friends.  The weekends are a even more special with entertainment and activities including:

Ice carving demonstrations courtesy of Troubled Ice (Saturdays)
Holiday songs from The Other Reindeer Carolers (Saturdays)
Magic, music, and hilarity with Swazzle’s Holiday Extravaganza Puppet Show (Sundays)
USO-style song and dance performances by the popular Satin Dollz
Make-your-own antler craft station
Reindeer keeper talks
Holiday presents for the animals
And photos with Santa at his new L.A. Zoo headquarters

We were there on a Saturday and although we didn’t have time to do everything listed above, we still had so much fun! My son made a fun antler craft!

He stared at the reindeer for quite a while, just watching their every move! Seeing them live was so much fun for him!

After some time exploring the Reindeer Romp we headed out to check out the rest of the zoo.  It’s cheerfully decorated for the holidays!

The weather was just perfect too by the way.  The sun was shining but the temps were low, by Socal standards anyway.  It was hovering around the low 50’s, which was ideal for walking the hilly pathways at the zoo.

We spent lots of time hanging out with the animals at the zoo, like this gorilla.

..and these pretty flamingos.  Did you know that they aren’t born that unique shade of pink? Yeah neither did I! I learned that at the zoo!

All in all, a wonderful day at the L.A. Zoo!  After spending all afternoon there (and enjoying a bright red frozen treat on the way out), we headed back home to the OC. My little guy made it about 5 minutes out of the Griffith Park area before he zonked out. ZZZzzzzzzz…. Now that’s what I call celebrating our Christmas holiday to the absolute fullest!

If you live in Southern California or are in town for the holidays, don’t miss the Reindeer Romp at the L.A. Zoo. Your kids will have a blast, I promise!  Hurry…the live reindeer and all of the Reindeer Romp activities are there now until January 3rd!

Whether at home, out and about, or a little of both like my family, spending the holiday season with your loved ones is of utmost importance. I wish you and your families a very happy New Year filled with love, hugs, and even some reindeer!

..Til next time!
