Hey everyone! I was shopping at Michaels this weekend and came across the cutest little galvanized metal tub! I thought maybe a cooler? Or perhaps to hold toys? Or maybe in the living room to hold blankets or throw pillows? The possibilities were endless. At just $15 plus my 40% off coupon, I stopped thinking about it and just brought it home!
I headed straight for my craft closet and stared blankly at my supplies. I do that a lot when I know I want to be creative but can’t quite figure out how. This was one of those moments.
Anyhow, after about 15 minutes I pulled out some Frogtape Shape Tape (Chevron), and a couple of bottles of acrylic paint, and decided what to do with it as I went along (it’s how I work best, ha)! Eventually I added more materials and it turned into a
DIY Vintage Metal Tub
Materials:
Galvanized Metal Tub
Acrylic paint/foam applicator
Frogtape Shape Tape
(get some at Home Depot in any pattern you like)
Sandpaper (light grit)
Dark Furniture Wax (optional-I used Annie Sloan)
Directions:
Follow the ultra easy directions and apply the Shape Tape to the tub in any pattern you like. I chose to go around in stripes to add a fun nautical flair to it!
Add several coats of the paint. Allow to dry completely.
Remove the tape carefully and go over the entire bucket with the sandpaper lightly to where you are making a chippy and worn effect on the bucket. Go ahead and mess up the pretty chevron you just made!
Dab the wax on with a foam brush or even a paper towel, then spread it evenly over the bucket.
Allow the wax to set for several hours or overnight.
Lastly, figure out where you want to prominently show off your new ‘vintage’ metal tub!
Wouldn’t it look great in a beach or nautical themed space? I am trying to mentally make some space in my guest bathroom as we speak. Hmmm, stay tuned!
Have you ever ‘aged’ metal? What method did you use to give it an old world look?
