Gold is the new black! Well, in my world anyway. I’ve been obsessed with adding gold accents to my living room lately, and I just can’t stop! I started a Pinterest board called Decorating With Gold trying to find anything and everything I can find to for inspiration.
DIY Gold Decor Accents
I painted an armoire a couple of weekends ago and found the perfect spot for it, but when I brought it in I realized that there was some space on top of it that begged for some decorative accessories-happy dance! So I pulled out my garage sale stash, you know the bin of stuff I have set aside for the next yard sale that I can’t ever seem to keep full, yeah that one! I came across a set of black wooden vases (only one of them is pictured below) and ampersand bookend, and a set of black metal candle sconces.
See what I mean? Gold really is the new black in this scenario :)
I also took a wrought iron sphere candle holder from my dining room that wasn’t quite doing it for me in that space.
All of these items were given an instant makeover with this can of metallic spray paint.
The Krylon Dual Paint and Primer was great because I didn’t have to buy a separate primer which when going from a dark base to a light color, is usually very necessary! After 2 good coats with about 20 minutes of drying time in between, I had given these ‘garage sale bin’ rejects a brand new life.
A subtle hint of ‘bling’ and class to an otherwise casual space.

You don’t need to use a bookend to actually hold books up…as with anything, if you like it, why not use it as a stand alone piece?
Rustic orange candle on a gold sconce? Don’t mind if I do!
I am now in the middle of updating my master bedroom, and want to use up the rest of that can of gold spray paint so badly! Once again I’m relying on Pinterest to offer up some ideas to use in there too. I may have to run out and get another can…honestly at just a few bucks it’s a no brainer!
Are you as gold obsessed as I am? How are you incorporating gold into your space?
