Hello my friends! How’s your week going so far? I’ve been doing some very late spring cleaning and organizing the last few days.
I was cleaning out the kitchen and thought that one my glass canister sets could use some pizzaz. I’ve been wanting to try the paint dipped look–these were perfect!
I have these next to the coffee makers to keep the coffee, tea, and cocoa handy.
Here’s what they looked like before I got a hold of them:
Functional. Pretty? Not so much.
The fabulous folks at DecoArt had sent me some Glass Chalkboard Paint, I knew it would be perfect for the ‘dipped’ look I was after.
If you want to try this project here’s what you’ll need:
Washi Tape
Tape measure
Painter’s tape
Foam brush
Glass canister
Oven
{Directions}:
Step 1: Clean the glass well (use an alcohol swab if you can).
Step 2: From the bottom up, measure 3″ (or as many or few as you like)
Step 3: Add a strip of painter’s tape at the 3″ mark, to wrap all around the canister
Step 4: With your foam brush, add even strokes on the bottom half of the canister. Paint 2 coats, allowing to dry in between coats.
{I ran out of painter’s tape and just use some extra washi tape I had handy}
Step 5: Remove the painter’s tape. To make sure the paint completely sets and is washable (DecoArt Glass Chalkboard paint is dishwasher safe–SCORE!), flip the canisters upside down on a cookie sheet and place them in the oven at 240 for 40 minutes. Then let it cool off with an open oven door before removing.
I’ve painted chalkboard paint on glass before and it usually requires several coats. The DecoArt paint went on very smoothly, and evenly, only needing 2 quick coats to fully cover!
Step 6: Add the Washi tape as a decorative trim.I wrapped it on the edge of the paint, and again on the rim of the lids. You can get creative with it, or leave it off altogether!
Step 7: Write your message in chalk! As you can see I didn’t get terribly creative with my wording :)
The best part is that I can change the Washi tape and wording anytime! If I decide to use these to store something else, I can update them up in a split second!
I’ve gotta say, chalkboard paint and Washi tape are my favorite craft supplies of the moment. They’re both just so versatile!
What would you create with Glass Chalkboard Paint?
