Last week was my little guy’s birthday, he turned a big SIX! This event also coincided with his reading an entire book completely on his own. It always happens like this, he hits big milestones all at once. Now we’re patiently waiting on that first tooth to loosen up!
I asked him what he wanted me to take to the classroom on the big day, cookies or cupcakes? Staying true to his character he said ‘neither’. He wanted mini donuts instead. I love his ‘outside the box’ thinking! I know you creative Mom’s can appreciate what I’m sayin’ here!
Birthday Treats for School
Not only was I impressed by his originality, but I was grateful–these treats were going to be a breeze!
How to make simple birthday treats for school:
Materials:
Cupcake liners
I had a pack of wax cupcake liners from Sweet Baking Supply, they are an adorable orange with white polka dots! Very important to stick with gender neutral colors when you’re dealing with a group of 5-6 year olds, so orange was perfect!
Paper Straws
Washi Tape
Mini Donuts
Pick up a few packs of powdered donuts from the grocery store, and stack 2 of them in each cup. Using a serrated knife, cut the straws down to size. For me, each straw was enough for 2 cupcake liners, with a little extra left over. Wrap a strip of washi tape around the top of the straw and trim the edge to look like a flag. Insert the straw into the center of the donuts.
You can change the look of each slightly by using washi tape in different patterns, different cupcake liners, or straws.
Your kid’s school will love that they don’t have to cut anything up, or clean up half-eaten cupcakes afterwards.
The kids loved this treat! The teacher served it to them with their lunches and it was just enough to top their tummies off as they celebrated my little guy’s BIG day!
What do you think of my little donut treats for your kid’s class? Would you whip these up for your kiddies friends?
