Happy Labor Day! Not much by way of celebrating going on around here, just some relaxing, and good a little crafting! Labor Day marks the end of Summer {although it’s still in the 90’s}, and you know what that means? It’s time to decorate for Fall! The first thing I did was clear off my summer mantel to make room for the fall decor. Last year I went with mostly white for my Fall Mantel, and I loved it! This year though, I thought I’d add a punch of color to the mantel with one of my favorite combos, teal and orange!
Decorating for Fall: Stenciled Banner and Framed Art
Truthfully I have nothing prepared for Fall this year so I made a few things this weekend to get me started. The lovely folks at DecoArt had sent me this amazing assortment of Americana Multi-Surface Satins paint and Ame
ricana stencils, so this was my chance to get a little crafty for my fall decor!
You can get your Fall season started off with some crafting too! To make these projects you’ll need:
Materials:
Banner:
6 squares of burlap, cut evenly
Jute twine
DecoArt Americana paint
Americana stencils
Small foam brush
Hot glue gun
Framed Art:
Inexpensive frame
Square of burlap to fit the frame
DecpArt/Americana paint
Americana stencil
{Americana Multi-Surface Satins are available for purchase at Michaels, A.C. Moore, Hobby Lobby, and other fine craft retailers}
I always have burlap lying around, which is a great material for this time of year. The first project I made was stenciled branches for framed art:
This Framed Art was incredibly simple to put together!
I went to the thrift store and picked up a pretty blue frame for just 3.99, can’t beat that!
Next I pulled out all of the orange shades in my DecoArt stash, and chose ‘Pumpkin Patch’ for this project.
Using the ‘Branching Out’ Americana stencil, I taped it over a small piece of burlap and with a sponge applicator, I dabbed the orange paint on to the stencil. I carefully pulled the stencil off, and let it dry completely for about 30 minutes. I put the frame together and voila–all done! So EASY!
The next project is a simple banner for the fall mantel. For this one I pulled out all of the blue shades in the Americana stash. That’s a whole lot of blue!
I chose the closest to the teal on the frame, blue lagoon..so pretty!
I used one part of the “Angular Motion’ stencil, and went with white. For the wording I used a large block letter stencil with the ‘Blue Lagoon’ paint.
To adhere the burlap pieces to the jute twine, I used small beads of hot glue along the back, spacing each piece 5 inches apart.
How easy peasy are these fall projects? Wouldn’t the “Branched Out’ stencil be beautiful in white against a silver backdrop for Christmas too? Oooh, so many ideas stirring up in my noggin’!
If you are going to make these or any other crafts this season, I’ve got a sweet deal for ya! Head on over to Michaels, A.C. Moore, Hobby Lobby, buy 5 Americana Multi Surface Paints and get $3 back! All rebates submtted will be entered to win an iPad Mini, WOOT!!
I’m going to be working on my fall mantel all week, making it up as I go along, cause that’s how I roll! When do you typically start decorating for Fall? Is your decor planned ahead of time or are you winging it, like I am?
