Hello, hello!
Recently I guest posted at Ladybug Blessings, where Kristen was gracious enough to let me share with her readers on my Craigslist cabinet makeover. For those of you who missed it, here it is again, hope you like it!
If you’re new around here: a quick tid-bit about me: I can’t leave well enough alone. If there’s a can of paint near me, you better duck or you’ll end up chevroned or striped.
I just looove to pretty-fy things and I LOVE a bargain!
I’d debated for a while as to whether to leave it as is or pretty her up. It has plenty of storage and an ‘antique’ kind of a look, which I liked, so I decided not to do anything to it, and just used it in my dining room.
I knew that wouldn’t last. A few weeks later, I was bored one late night and found myself with some white and black paint left over from a project and decided to go ahead and paint some stripes on my Craigslist find–praying I wouldn’t mess it up!
This turned out to be the easiest project I’d done in a very long time!
1. Cabinet (thank you Captain Obvious)
2. Painters tape
3. Sponge brushes
4. Black latex paint
5. White latex paint
6. Sanding block
7. Polyurethane
8. Acrylic knobs
I had everything in my supply closet, except the knobs, which cost $6 for both at Home Depot (wish I had seen these before).
There was no varnish on this cabinet so I simply wiped it down, removed the old (ugly) knobs, and mixed the black and white paint together until I got the exact shade of grey I wanted. I painted the entire cabinet in the new grey color in no time at all.
Once it was completely dry I taped diagonal stripes on just the doors and using the leftover white paint, I painted every other ‘stripe’ in white.
After the cabinet had been set out to dry overnight, I went over the entire thing with the sanding block to blur the sharp lines a little, and of course to hide any imperfections or remove any drip marks (it happens!). Then added a coat of the Poly.
Added the acrylic knobs and the entire look of the cabinet was transformed!
