There’s no better way to celebrate Spring than by adding a touch of bright green to your decor, wouldn’t you agree?
Especially when said bright green comes in the form of this beauty:
Look at that hour glass figure! |
As I mentioned on my post about Decorating and Crafting On a Budget, this was yet another Craigslist gem I just couldn’t pass up. I picked her up and got to work right away. Yes it’s a ‘her’, and she’s lovely!
Pre-loveliness |
Anywho, see how glossy that sucker she was? Even with the dated finish, I just couldn’t resist the shape and sound structure of this piece! It was PERFECT, just needed a wee love in the form of spray paint and elbow grease.
With all those layers of stain I considered pulling out the orbital sander and just roughing out all the glorious gloss, but have you ever tried to use an orbital sander on a curvy piece with smaller areas (i.e. legs and back)? It ain’t exactly the easiest thing to maneuver. Besides as I said, she was in fantastic shape with the exception of a few worn areas on her legs, there was really no need for much prep at all (those last seven words always make me smile). I decided to skip it and just sand lightly by hand with fine grit sandpaper, and then add a couple of coats of spray primer; figured if it doesn’t cover, then I’ll use the sander and suffer through her curviness if need be:
All primed and ready |
I let her dry for a good hour and lightly went over again with the fine sandpaper, and wiped down with a damp cloth. Once she was completely dry (about 5 minutes), I started spraying with the loveliest green in all the land:
Krylon Ivy Leaf Spray Paint= fabulousness! |
Color coat number 1! |
Just took 2 coats of the green with a wee bit of lightly sanding (yup again!) in between coats, a quick coat of spray polyurethane, and some distressing (happens to be my style these days!) to make her all ready for the Spring dance:
She lives in my living room. I love the cheerfulness she brings to the room!
So much so that in fact that I felt the need to use the rest of the Ivy Leaf paint on this sign that was originally multi colored. This one lives on my mantle, not too far from his cousin, Spring Green Chair.
Distressed; looking like it’s been around a while, just like I like it! |
Love the splash of bright green! |
I know I’m late on this, but I can’t wait to get started on the rest of my Spring projects (hopefully before summer)!
