I am a proud part time member of my son’s elementary school’s PTA. I say ‘part time’ because although there is really no such thing, for me there is! Thanks to my day job, I can’t ever make it to the meetings, and I can hardly ever be at school during the day. I chair the Reflections art program at our school. Reflections is an art contest put on by the national PTA celebrating the arts in our public school. This year’s theme was “Let Your Imagination Fly”, entries include visual arts, film, music, dance, and literature, and the top 3 winners in each category move on to district and then the state competition.

It requires very little in-school time, I get to get crafty by decorating the wall where the art will be hung, AND I get to throw a fun little party at the end of the year for those that participated. This is the perfect program for a part timer like me to run. Our party was last week-I threw a little cupcake social at the school where the kids got to stop by after they had their lunches and decorate a cupcake while they enjoy some punch. It was a big success!

The community really embraces this program! With the help of a few other mamas I was able to get fun discounts or freebies donated by local businesses which I put into the goodie bags I gave out at the social. Also included in the goodie bags were a few craft supplies from Michaels. These are artsy kids, so each one received a wooden frame, craft paint, and a foam applicator. Then I took a pic of each child and sent that to the parents separately so they can put it in their frame.

Everything else came from Michaels too! The tablecloths, the fun bunting, the floral pitchers, and the cute chalkboard signs–Michaels is my one stop shop for every party. From paper crafts, party goods and baking supplies to new outdoor lighting, glass and floral, Michaels is your DIY destination for all of your summer celebrations.
I am so proud of our school! I can’t wait to see what masterpieces these young minds dream up next year. The theme will be “What Is Your Story”, should be fun!
