I love this time of year! We are all in the ‘out with old, in with the new’ state of mind. That can mean different things to different people though. For me this year it’s more of a mental challenge than it is say, organizing my closets. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely doing that, as my closets are in desperate need of purging. This year though, I am resolving to organize my thoughts better, set my goals, make an action plan, and for the love of all things good, STICK WITH IT! Not only do I have the usual mom stuff that I need to keep track of daily and weekly, but this blog could use some organized planning, and my fitness and health goals are also in desperate need of attention. I picked up a pretty new planner at Michaels and started to fill it in with the my tasks, daily and weekly.
After much thought I have decided to go back to a manual planner to organize my tasks, rather than a digital one..allow me to explain. While I have never been one to embrace all things techy (for example, I am on not on all social media channels), I do understand that this is the age of technology, and life can be easier knowing that my phone will remind me of certain events, etc. The problem for me has always been inputting the info into my digital calendar to begin with. We are not yet to the point in society where our devices can read minds, so therefore, I will not be notified of a certain event or due date, if I do not take the time to enter the info into my calendar. This is a proven scientific fact. Sure, that is easy enough for you techy types, for me too, but truth is, I forget, and often! Plain and simple, I find myself just jotting down dates on a sticky notes. Sticky notes are cute, but they will not remind me to do anything unless I stick them to my forehead. Back in the day (stone ages), I used a planner, and it worked wonderfully. I quickly scribbled down my tasks, or even slapped a post-it type note on a certain date in the planner. If I trained myself to open it up everyday then nothing would go undone. Somehow, with the ridiculous amounts of notifications coming in on my phone from social media and everything else, my daily to-do’s can get lost in the madness. I dismiss each and get on with life, usually leaving tasks and due dates behind. The struggle is so real my friends.
This adorable planner from Michaels will be my saving grace this year. I am placing it next to my bible, so every morning, coffee in hand, I can read the good book, then glance at my planner and know what I adventure lies ahead for the day.
I love that each month in this pretty planner has an intro page that will allow me to enter monthly goals, birthdays and more. Monthly goals for January—don’t forget to plan, plan, plan! :)
I am also using it to keep track of my fitness goals. I will not show up to barre class or do my workout video if I am not reminded to do so. This little book will keep me on the ball.
There is another section where you can write in longer lists daily, so I am using that one to keep track of my food for the day.
I can’t wait to fill this planner in with all of the week’s tasks! From kid’s sports, to work to-do’s, family events, fitness goals, blog deadlines, and so much more will fill in these pages. That is my resolution for 2017 and I can’t wait to get started!
