Greater-The Movie
We are a sports family through and through. Practically year round my weekends consist of traveling to and from fields to watch my kids live out their passion for sports. Up until this season, we played baseball exclusively. We love it, my boys (ages 14 and 8) live for it and it was our ‘thing’. Lately (and to my reluctance) we’ve given football a shot for my 8 year old who literally begged me to let him play. Seriously you should’ve seen his face when he asked, I couldn’t resist. He loves it, and 2 games in I can tell he’s pretty darn good at it! We will always support their love for sports and do what we can to help them achieve their dreams, and they are big dreams. Major League sized dreams actually, the type of dreams that are rarely realized by any athlete. Realistically, there is only a minuscule chance of any little leaguer making it to the majors, or any pee-wee player joining the NFL. While we will do our part, they know that the battle is mostly theirs. If they want it, they must go out and get it! Our family motto and one I remind them of often is: Trust in God, believe in yourself, and work hard. Those are the 3 key ingredients to success in our opinion, and we try hard to live that out. As a family we watch lots of sports movies, they help inspire the boys to be GREATER, try harder, and to never give up. This weekend we were privileged to screen GREATER with our teen. GREATER is the story of Brandon Bulsworth, the most successful walk-on in college football history.
Brandon persevered through so much adversity to reach his goals. He was overweight, had poor eyesight, and not-so-great grades. He came from a single parent household where money was very tight. Brandon’s dad was mostly out of the picture, and he had his own issues to deal with. His chances of getting any type of athletic scholarship were slim, especially not to his dream school.
For Brandon, who had aspired to be an Arkansas Razorback his whole life, those were not things that would stop him. His determination was strong. Stronger than I’ve seen in any athlete (remember, we watch lots of sports movies), that coupled with his fervent faith and belief in himself, made him GREATER than any other college football walk-on to date.
Check your local theaters for availability, GREATER the movie, will be released this coming Friday, 8/26!
In the meantime, check out the trailer. Even if your not a “sports family” like we are, you will find it motivating, and inspiring.
