On The Front Porch

Have you heard about Porch? It’s one of my favorite new sites for all things DIY and home improvement! Picture Pinterest meets LinkedIn, meets home improvement.  It’s a great way to connect with accredited professionals and browse millions of projects, and get great advice for all things home and DIY.

I’m so excited because the beautiful people at Porch asked me to share a little bit more about myself and this blog for their new series “On the Front Porch”.  It’s so nice to step outside of the proverbial creative box and just chat it up from time to time.  It’s especially a treat to get to work with such a great site!

If your life were a song, what would it be?

“It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi. The lyrics are perfect–it’s now or never!

If your walls could only be painted one color for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?

Blue. Any and all shades of blue make me ridiculously happy, yet calm and soothe me all at once. It’s pretty much the most perfect color ever.

What are you exceptionally good at? (Permission to brag)

Well, since I have permission to brag, I think I am pretty good at spray painting! I can fix a drip mark like nobody’s business to almost always end up with a smooth and flawless finish. Almost always!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve collected?

When I was a little girl I collected flies in a jar. Not pretty fireflies, just plain old flies. When they died they were flushed away. You say ‘weirdest’ thing, right?

Show us your best project for a DIY beginner!

Washi Taped Tea Lights! Simply wrap some washi around the tea light and voila! Very simple décor craft for the DIY’er at any level!

What’s a home trend you hope doesn’t exist in 100 years?

T.V’s mounted over the fireplace. Then again in 100 years our shows will probably be watched via life-sized hologram.

Favorite words to live by?

“I want to live my life, not record it” by Jackie Kennedy. It reminds me that being present and in the moment is better than taking the best picture or writing the best post any day.
