The marquee letter trend is gracing the shelves of almost every decor store and mag on the planet. I love it and have been looking for a way to make some myself. While there are zillions of DIY tutorials online I really wanted an easy way to make them, so I was stoked when I got the chance to do just that with Michaels and American Crafts! These are the easiest DIY marquee letters! I put them together quickly and can change them up anytime I want. Perfect!
You can buy any letter of the alphabet so I chose to spell out the word ‘family’ because I couldn’t think of any other that would personify what is of utmost importance to me; family and God are constants in my life!
EASY DIY MARQUEE LETTERS
Materials:
Letters from the Marquee Love line from American Crafts at Michaels
Craft paper in any pattern you like {I adore this chevron wood print!}
Hole punch
Scissors or an Exacto knife
Mod Podge
Foam brush
Glitter (I chose fine gold glitter)
Directions:
Each letter comes with a tracing template so turn the craft paper over and trace it with a pencil, be sure to trace the circles in the center too. Cut the letter and use the hole punch to get each circle you traced.
Tuck the cut letter into the front of the marquee letter, making sure the holes are aligned. You can use a thin coat of glue to attach the paper onto the letter, but I decided not to. I’d like the option to change it up later, and it seems to be pretty secure as is.
You can decorate these letters in so many ways! I chose to add some bling with gold glitter to offset the faux wood.
Pour some of the glitter carefully onto a paper plate or newspaper. Add a thin coat of Mod Podge to the outside of each letter using the foam brush and press each side of the letter on to the glitter.
Lastly, insert the clear bulbs to the front of the letters, carefully tucking them in to each hole. Follow the directions on each letter package and string the lights on to the back.
These letters are battery powered so you will not have unsightly cords hanging from them! Insert the batteries and turn the power switch. They look great even when the bulbs are off, just like a real marquee sign!
These letters look so pretty and give off a sweet glow to my home. Now if only I can figure out where to put them! I am leaning towards the hallway or over a gallery wall in the stairway. You’re going to have to come back and see where they wound up. In the meantime I am already thinking of making another marquee sign for my kid’s room!
What would you do with these easy Marquee Love letters?
