This post is partially brought to you by Duck Brand.
Hello, hello!! I am so excited about my latest project, I’m just going to go ahead and skip the intro and get right to it, mmm k?
I covered an ugly old, chippy, begging-for-some-love ottoman with DUCT TAPE!
This was part of our old set of furniture. It was faux leather (although the sales person said it was ‘real’ grrrr), and we’ve been using it in our kid’s playroom since we moved to this house almost 3 years ago. It was fully functional, but man oh man, did it need an Oprah style makeover, and BADLY!
Duct Tape Covered Ottoman
Do you have furniture that can use a second chance at life? Grab a few rolls of Duck brand Duct Tape in your choice of fabulous colors and patterns, and a sharp pair of scissors (like Fiskars Amplify) and get to work!
Materials:
Duck Brand tape rolls
Sharp scissors
Level (for this chevron style pattern}
I used “Winking White” instead of the checkered pattern shown above, but I love the checkered tape, and I used it on my Duct Tape Rug!
Directions:
For this chevron style pattern, I eyeballed the center of the ottoman, and made a large’V’ shape with my red tape in the middle.
Then using a level, I lined up the subsequent ‘V’s’ to fall directly under the first one, alternating with the red and white duct tape, so that it is nice and even. I cut the ends of each strip at an angle with my sharp Fiskars :)
Lastly, I wrapped the white, red, and some turquoise duct tape around the bottom half of the ottoman, in a regular striped pattern. This is a great opportunity to get really creative with your duct tape!
I left the wood feet as is, I figured it was the only part of the entire piece that was still in tact. But you know..if they start to show signs of wear, I will fix that right up with some duct tape!
What can you decorate with Duct Tape?

I love this! The color and pattern is so much fun, and I know that with the Duck Tape it’s going to be durable, too! I have a worn out ottoman in my boys’ playroom that could totally use a makeover like this!

Thanks Heidi! I’d love to see how you’d cover up your kid’s ottoman with Duct Tape! Can’t wait to see pix!

Thanks Melanie!

Love this Barbara and I can’t believe I didn’t know that there was white Duct Tape before. Your ottoman inspired me to buy a couple of rolls to try out. Excited to see you at SNAP next week!

Thanks Britni! Unfortunately I couldn’t make it to SNAP, but I hope you had a great time! See you next year hopefully!

Great idea! I have a vinyle chair that is in a similar state as your original ottoman. I planned to paint it using chaulk paint but then read comments that it will eventually chip off.
How is the ottoman stnading up to normal wear and tear? Do you think tape will stand up to daily use (no young kids)?
Barbara @ Chase the Star says
Hi Jen, thank you! It has withstood fairly well. I have had to replace a strip of tape here and there on the top part due to normal wear and tear, and it looks good as new. The bottom half has held up beautifully though!
