So one of my bestest buds in all the land, Jill at Create.Craft.Love organized a Valentine’s Day exchange, and well I just couldn’t resist but to sign up!
The premise of the exchange is to buy or make a Valentine and do it the old school way…send it out via ‘snail mail’. I think it’s a fab idea, especially since these days we don’t even get invitations in the mail anymore, much less a Valentine’s Day card–what a great way to embrace a tradition! There were 40+ sign ups!
Check out how I made these simple Valentines and how you can make some too!
I went to my favorite craft store, Michael’s and bought:
4 Packs of doily hearts
(I chose to alternate red and white)
Turquoise ribbon
(still addicted to the red/turquoise combo-sorry!)
Heart cut-outs
Pack of ‘goodie’ bags
Around the house I had:
Washi tape
manual hole punch
hot glue gun and glue stick
fabric (or sharp) scissors
DIY Valentines:
There’s no real grand tutorial here folks, they’re as simple to make as they look!
Simply put one doily over the other (I staggered them a wee bit so the one in the back shows through), punch two holes across the top (making sure you’re catching both doilys).
Run the ribbon through it, tie a knot on each end and cut off the excess ribbon.
Using the hot glue gun, glue the heart cut-out to the front of the Valentine.
(I added another to the second doily, for a fun little surprise!)

valentines
Place it in a goodie bag, fold the top down and seal it with some Washi tape (or any kind of craft tape).
Add address labels and a stamp, and drop it in the mailbox (it’s the big blue metal box outside of many businesses with a big ‘U.S.P.S’ sign on it—in case you may have forgotten ha!)
Super simple and great for classroom Valentines too!
Speaking of kid’s crafts…come back in a couple of days for one last Valentine’s Day project (can’t help it)!
Would you consider mailing out Valentine’s cards?
XOXO
