Happy Holidays! This week my little boy was having his very first Christmas party at pre-school. To celebrate we decided to make ornaments to share with the class!
As a rule, I don’t like to spend too much money on my crafts (you already knew that). However, I wanted to make ornaments that are kid friendly, could be enjoyed for years, and that my readers could easily make! ‘Tis the season for giving :)
To make the ornaments I used:
Plastic clear ornaments (1/2 off at Michael’s; just 50¢ each)
Craft (Washi) Tape ($1.99 for a pack of 2 at Michael’s)
Streamers (cut into strips) (2 for $1 at the Dollar store)
Mod Podge Sparkle (craft stash)
Wide foam brush (craft stash)
Grow grain ribbon (craft stash)
A few weeks ago I’d received a big ol’ box of Mod Podge goodies from Plaid to make my ‘Joy’ wreath, so of course I use Mod Podge any chance I get!
These ornaments were a cinch to make! We whipped up 18 of them in just over an hour.
{DIY Christmas Ornament}
First thing is to add the tape to the plastic ornament (or glass if not for kids) in any design you like.
Then my ‘assistant’ and I removed the tops of the ornaments, and stuffed a small handful of the streamer strips in each.
{Tip: Use your nails to go over the tape to remove any
air bubbles}.
Next I placed the metal tops back on the ornaments, and added a 6″ strip of the grow grain ribbon, tying a double knot on each end.
Lastly, I dipped the foam brush in a small amount of the Mod Podge Sparkle and brushed a coat all over each ornament (don’t be afraid to layer it on thick if you like, it’ll dry clear and the sparkle effect will be subtle).
They dried completely in about 20 minutes!
My little guy had a great time at the party and the teachers and kids loved their gifts!
