There, I said it. I can’t get enough of it! You’ll see burlap all over my house.
I’ve even used it to recover my headboard (more on that later). When he saw that, the hubs said something to the tune of ‘more of that burlap stuff?’. Um, yes honey, more.
Top 5 reasons why I LOVE burlap:
1. Versatile; it can be painted, sewn, tied, glued, you name it
2. Natural look
3. Dirt cheap at around $2.50/yd
4. Adds texture to any room
5. Goes with a variety of styles; contemporary, shabby chic, vintage style, and everything in between
The hubs didn’t seem to care about any of these reasons.
I digress.
Over the last few months I’ve made several easy burlap projects that are displayed all over the house.
Narrowing it down to just a few today since my husband is probably reading this and rolling his eyes as we speak. He loves me and puts up with my crafty habits. Enough said!
First up this super easy wall art which shows off my anniversary date!
This came together easily by repurposing some old pictures from Ikea. I removed the artwork and glass, painted the frames black and distressed them with sandpaper.
Then placed the burlap over the backing by hot gluing it on the back.
Taped off the stripes, and painted them white with a roller.
The bright white makes the burlap stripe look darker, which creates quite the nice contrast, if I do say so myself!
Next up is a lamp shade simply covered in burlap with hot glue, adding black ribbon to the top and bottom. That’s it! A big difference from the original boring white shades.
Easy enough, huh?
Finally, I made a quick last minute piece of ‘art work’ using an old 16×20 white picture frame I had lying around, and a folder from Target (in the ‘dollar’ section no less!)
This one took about 20 minutes and only because I had to let the paint dry on the lettering.
I used the same method as above to cover the backing with burlap. Later took this little diddy I had in the supply stash:
So many goodies at the ‘dollar’ section at Target! |
Once dry, I centered the folder with a little glue and put the glass and frame back over it.
Sharing my looove for burlap in 3 easy to make projects!
Do you use burlap in your decor? What other burlap ideas can we come up with??

I love the versatility of burlap, too. It has such gorgeous texture (but I could do without the smell!). Your anniversary artwork looks amazing with the stripes! I’m tempted to make something like this for my mantel.
Chase the Star says
Claire, thanks for the compliment! I don’t know what smell you mean, although it could be that I love it so much that I overlook it! HA! Have a great day!
