After spending an arm and a leg on energy costs this summer, we are ready to make some changes! The cold air will be here before we know it which means we’re switching from high electric bills to high heat (gas) bills. It’s a never ending cycle and it’s draining our pockets! I’ve been doing research online–if we make a few small changes, we can save big!
Save Money On Energy Costs
One: Did you know that if you run the air conditioner at 78° instead of 72° can save an average of 12% on your bill?
Two. Don’t have lamps, TV’s or other small appliances near your thermostat. The thermostat will sense the heat from your TV and run longer than necessary!
Three: Place your trees in the right spots around your house can keep your house cool, while keeping costs down!
Four: Procrastinate on your laundry! Seriously, using large appliances such as your washer at night can use less energy than during peak daytime hours. Depending on where you live, you may pay less for off-peak energy!
Five: Consider solar panels!
Save money and the planet! Helping the environment can actually be cost effective.
Going solar can help you:
• Control energy choices and save money
• Help the environment
• Plan for the future, your kids’ college fund, and retirement
• Be on the cutting edge by using the latest technology and getting a sleek, custom made home solar system
Truthfully I’ve had my doubts in the past about solar panels. I thought it may be too expensive. Solar power can actually provide cost savings for homes $150+ month utility bills. I also figured it was just too complicated and confusing! After some research I came across Sungevity. Finding the right information from a trusted name can make all the difference! What if they are ugly?! Sungevity’s panels are completely black and blend in seamlessly with your home.
Great idea, right?

I had no idea having lamps, TV’s and small appliances could affect a thermostat- good to know! And I love the slim look of these solar panels, many of them are so big and bulky!

Great tips … especially the one about having nothing near the thermostat … I’ve just never thought before about that making a difference but of course would!
