If you follow me on any form of social media you’ll have heard me sing the Michaels Arts & Crafts praises louder than usual these days. They recently launched the Michaels Makers program, and selected yours truly to be part of all the fun. As part of Michaels Makers, I will embark on a new challenge every month, and take you along for the ride!
My first project is a bright, red, white and blue wreath, an idea I picked up right from the Michaels site. From the home page, I hovered over the ‘Find a Project’ tab, and was able to easily find tons of great ideas!
I fell in love with this patriotic wreath, and knew I just had to make one for the 4th of July!
Gorgeous right? I thought I’d add my own touch by changing up the bunting a bit, from pennant to flag, and adding more of them!
Michaels now has online shopping, and even better they offer one-click shopping lists for projects all in one place – so you don’t have to search the site for all of the necessary supplies, talk about a time saver! Best of all there is free shipping on orders over $50, now that’s what I’m talking about!
How To Make a 4th of July Wreath
I ordered everything I needed in just a few minutes. All of these supplies were on my doorstep in no time:
Materials:
Glue gun and glue sticks
Small paint brush
White acrylic paint
Wooden stars
White yarn
Red and white 2″ grosgrain ribbon
Blue 2″ grosgrain ribbon
Floral wreath form
Directions:
Step 1: Paint 6 of the stars white, and allow to dry.
Step 2: Wrap the red and white ribbon around the wreath form securing it with a few beads of hot glue. Wrap tightly, making your way to about 3/4 around, and add more hot glue to the end to keep it in place. Be sure to set aside a few inches of the ribbon.
Step 3: Wrap the blue ribbon in the same fashion around the rest of the form, also setting some aside.
Step 4: Adhere the stars in a random pattern along the blue ribbon with hot glue.
Step 5: Cut the extra ribbon in triangles {I had enough for about 6}.
Step 6:
Make the Bunting!
Cut a piece of yarn long enough to go across the center of the wreath and drape a bit. Determine the pattern you’d like your bunting ‘flags’ to hang and add a thin line of hot glue to the back of each triangle piece. Place the yarn over the glue and allow to set. Lastly, secure each side of your bunting to the back of the wreath with hot glue.
Create a hanger out of ribbon or layers of yarn and attach to the top if you like!
Step 7: Admire your work and hang it up for the world too see!
What a great way to show off your patriotic pride! Michaels has so many great ideas, and now with just one-click you can easily get what you need quickly and without fuss.

So tell me, how are you sharing your love of the good ol’ USA?
