December started with cooler temperatures and even a little rain–rare for any time of year here in Southern California. There was a crisp in the air that reminded me of one thing, it’s the holiday season!! The holidays are all about family, but also about food, so “season’s eatings” is at the forefront of my mind these days. I have been hosting holiday dinners ever year for the last 12 years with no sign of slowing down. I’ve cooked for upwards of 30+ guests, and I have learned tons along the way! I’ve had extremely overwhelming years, and a few that are less stressful. I would much rather have the latter, so my mission at the start of every December is to find ways to simplify the holidays, while still providing a delicious meal for all of my guests, and maintaining my sanity. I need to keep my energy up for New Year’s Eve! This isn’t an easy feat, but if planned well, a little rain is all I need to worry about come the holiday season. I am planning ahead, shopping for affordable gourmet selections at Sam’s Club®, and party planning like a pro for the best holiday season ever!
Food Network chef Robert Irvine has partnered with Sam’s Club® to bring you a 4 part video series on all things party planning for the holidays.
I have the staples such as the turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and candied yams, down to a science. The one thing I am always scrambling for at the last minute is hors d’ ouevres and desserts. I am always so busy planning for the main meal that I forget-guests will be hungry as they await for dinner to be ready, and afterwards they will need something sweet to wake them from their food comas. That’s where I head to Sam’s Club® grab a few of their gourmet selections and worry no more. It’s done!
I’ll be picking up quality meats, produce, and even organics to make a delicious and affordable party platter. And I can’t forget the hummus, it’s a sure party pleaser.
Finishing off with their selection of gourmet desserts is a must! Seriously, I gotta make life a little easier!
