Who needs a Gingerbread House when you can make a Nutter Butter Christmas Tree?!
Yes you read that correctly my friends, while we did make a Gingerbread House this holiday season, this tradition was taken a step further at my house. We got creative with another sort of edible treat, Nutter Butter cookies!
My son had a great time working on this one and it was so very easy. Unlike your traditional holiday food crafts, this Nutter Butter cookie tree can be made in just a few minutes, you’ll be done before your child’s attention span starts to fade.
All you need are a handful of ingredients:
A stack of Nutter Butter cookies (get them at Walmart)
Green chocolate melts. You can use white as well, just add green food coloring like I did.
Assorted candy. I used some gingerbread house kit leftovers, but any small candies would work.
Directions:
Place about half of the bag of Melts in a microwave safe bowl and set on high for about 1 minute or until fully melted. If you need to use the food coloring, add several drops until you get the shade of green you like.
Tip: If the chocolate is starting to thicken up, add a teaspoon of butter to it and microwave for about 20 seconds and stir well.
On a paper plate or small piece of cardboard place 2 Nutter Butter cookies side by side. Then dip a cookie into the melted chocolate so that it covers one side of it completely. Place color side up on the cookies. Do the same for another cookie and stack it at an angle over the first one. Continue this step until you have a nice size stack. Your kiddos may need some help keeping the stack steady. Allow to set for about 5 minutes.
Now it’s time to decorate! Dip each piece in the chocolate and place on the tree anywhere you like. With candy this small I find that a little of the chocolate goes a long way to ‘glue’it in place.
Let your child get as creative as they want. Is the chocolate dripping off the sides? Who cares! It’s all about making something fun, delicious and festive for the holiday season–together!
Nutter Butters are perfect for the holidays, they can be transformed into so many cute crafts! And they are not bad on the palette, just saying! So good! These little Nutter Butter trees would be a fun and easy group craft too.
