With Back to School time comes time to send your older ones off to college. This can be such a daunting time for a kid! College is such a new experience and many kids have no idea what it will be like to live on their own, for the first time ever. That’s where we parents come in–we guide them and provide them with what they need, both physically and emotionally to start this brand new stage of life on the right foot! The pressure is on us too! College is expensive! Thankfully we have places like Walmart to help us get everything we need while we stick to our budget, and keep our sanity in tact. For the most part!
With that in mind I’ve compiled a list of 10 Dorm Room Essentials to get you started:
ONE Bedding: Let them choose a comforter set that brings some of their personal style to an otherwise stale and sterile dorm room. Add a comfy set of fresh sheets, pillows, shams and a bed skirt. Don’t forget the throw pillows!
TWO Shower Caddy: Sharing a bathroom with strangers is bad enough, so be sure they have a caddy that can hold all of the necessities like flip flops, a bathrobe, fresh towels (hand, face, and full length), and anything else she needs in the bath.
THREE Essentials: Papertowel rolls, Kleenex, all purpose cleaners, a small vacuum, mop and sweeper, set of plates and mugs, wall hooks, trash can and bags, and lightbulbs.
The Kleenex Expression Oval Facial Tissue is a must have! They have a set of fabulous chevron designs available only at Walmart. Perfect for your college student’s daily needs, but also perfect for when Mom and Dad visit..and inevitably say goodbye!
Chevron designs are a limited Back to School edition with Walmart (pick some up when you’re doing your dorm room shopping)!
Kleenex Expressions oval box designs in touch with your style.
Soft and durable 2-ply facial tissue.
Kleenex Expressions Tissues are available in 64ct oval and super cute boxes!
FOUR Small Appliances: They’ll need to be on time to class so get them a functional and stylish alarm clock! Also, a hamper and laundry baskets, and please don’t forget a coffee maker, mini fridge, and blender. They need to fuel up before classes and activities!
FIVE Storage: under the bed storage, shoe rack, hangers. Lots of storage for keepsakes, files, winter clothes, and more!
SIX Desk: Accessorize their desk with a lamp, and remember to include a printer, a cork board to pin important papers and pictures, and a pretty chair. This is a great spot to showcase their personality.
SEVEN Décor: They will be away from home for the first time in their young lives. They will want to keep ‘home’ around as much as possible. Get them lots of pictures and frames to keep familiar faces nearby. It may remind them to call their parents from time to time! Also a fun mirror, curtains and rod, shelves, and a lamp.
EIGHT Furniture: They may not have much space so make the best of it. Include a small nightstand, a tall dresser, and if possible a small table with 2 chairs.
NINE Electronics: Extension cords, phone and computer chargers. Keep them connected!
TEN Extras: A room divider may provide that sense of privacy they will lack in a small space. Also an area rug will add coziness and warmth! Don’t forget some knicks knacks from their room, they will be so thankful to have ‘hominess’ all around!
This is an exciting time in a young person’s life! Overall give them the love and support they need, and remind them you’re just a phone call, text, tweet, skype, and any other social media message away!
