It’s getting hot out there isn’t it? It’s been almost Summer like around here, which has my family yearning for something cool and refreshing to sip under the sun.
I really didn’t have much in the house except a few refrigerated cans of fruit punch and lemon lime soda left over from a BBQ a few weeks ago, and a box of frozen Kefir. Typically when I make punch for the kids, I combine these drinks with scoops of orange sherbet and it makes for a delicious treat. I like to work with what I have (you know I hate to run to the store), so I used the frozen Kefir as a substitute for the sherbet. OH.SO.GOOD!
What in the world is Kefir, you ask?
I have been trying to offer the kids healthier treat alternatives so this Spring Punch was perfect. I used Lifeway Probugs Frozen Kefir in ‘Orange Creamy Crawler’ flavor. If you’ve never heard of Kefir, you have to try it! Seriously, you do! Kefir is a cultured probiotic beverage similar in taste and texture to drinkable yogurt, and made from milk fermented with kefir cultures.
Kefir is NOT yogurt! Kefir has significantly more live and active cultures. Each cup contains seven to ten billion CFU’s of 10 strains of bacteria, plus ProBoost, Lifeway’s exclusive pair of probiotics. That’s 12 probiotics in all. Lifeway Kefir is cultured for 14 to 16 hours, whereas most yogurts are cultured for just 2 to 3 hours. It’s that extra time that gives Kefir its high probiotic activity count and its delicious effervescent taste.
Spring Punch Made with Frozen Kefir
This punch was so easy to make!
I let 3 of the Kefir squeezable tubes thaw for about 10 minutes, and placed the contents in a punch bowl.
Then I combined all of the ingredients in a punch bowl..
..and mixed well.
Like I do when I use sherbet, I left a few lumps of the Kefir in the punch. It will melt on it’s own, which adds a little creamy goodness to the end result. The kids didn’t even notice that I had tweaked the recipe a wee bit (Mom scores, again!).
The Lifeway Probugs is actually really tasty on it’s own too. My little guy had one as an after school snack today (notice the post ‘nap time’ hair!):
I’ll be making this Spring Punch again for my stepson’s birthday this weekend. I can’t wait to pull another (healthy) fast one on them, ha!
Would you use frozen Kefir in your everyday recipes?
This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Lifeway Kefir but all my opinions are my own (cause my kids really DO love this tasty Probugs Frozen Kefir!). #pmedia ##kefirprobugs http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO”#LifewayProbugs
