Hello!! I’ve spent the week doing a little organizing, a little crafting, and a little nothing. In that order:) I’m so happy to have finally done my Birdcage Gardening Project!
Which Birdcage Gardening project you ask? Why the one I had in mind when I bought this old birdcage at the thrift store a couple of months ago…when it was just starting to look like spring outside.
The main reason why I hadn’t done my project was because truthfully, gardening is not my cup of tea. I wish I had a green thumb, I really do. Sadly, I’m just am not very good at it so I shy away from it. My husband was born with two green thumbs so he’s the resident gardener around here. I told him about my plans and he encouraged me to go for it, and recommended I use Miracle Gro’s Moisture Control Potting Mix, which is what he uses.
First things first though. I wanted to makeover that dated little cage so I gave it a coat of sunny yellow spray paint and brought it back to life. Then I grabbed a terra cotta pot and {very large} saucer I happened to have and gave them a coat of paint, in a contrasting dark gray.
That’s my color combo crush lately by the way, bright yellow and gray, love it!
Before starting, I checked out The Gro Project for some pointers and ideas.
I bought a very inexpensive Petunia for this project. It’s a deep purple and just a perfect fit for my color combo crush.
I love that my sweet boy helped mommy plant today. He put some of the Miracle-Gro in, and offered up the water from his cup!
Assembling was easy, I just removed the bottom panel of the cage and placed the birdcage directly over the pot. The large saucer sits underneath to hold it all together.
Adds a little touch of whimsy to the garden!
I thought if I removed the saucer it could make a great centerpiece for a summer lunch.

Although I missed the spring season, I’m so glad I got this project done now. I think it’s a great way to kick off the summer!
What garden projects are you working on?
