Family time is scarce these days. Parents and even many kids fill their calendars weeks in advance, making time together less probable. I’ll admit I’m guilty of having a very busy family schedule. Each of our kids plays multiple sports, then there’s their school work and activities, time with friends, and a social invitation for practically every weekend (I’m getting better at declining some of those). We are always on the go! As parents my husband and I are well aware that our time with the children is limited. Before we know it they’ll be in their late teens or beyond, and our crazy busy days of managing a young family will be long gone. Just the thought of that makes me so sad! The time for spending quality time with the fam is now, and we have to be intentional about it.
We’ve made it a priority to have a “Family Fun Day” at least 3 times per month. My husband’s schedule is not traditional so we work around that, my job, and of course school and sports in order to make it happen. The point is we’re flexible and plan ahead to make sure we can share a few uninterrupted hours together almost weekly. Sometimes we head to a movie and dinner, but for the most part we focus on active and fun things to do. Not only do they love to watch us grown ups attempt to keep up with them, but we get to act like kids! Win-win.
Afterwards we usually head out to one of our favorite restaurants and catch up on our week. Or head home and watch a family movie together over an ice cream sundae.
All of these activities are family friendly and if you use a Groupon or similar, you can likely score a sweet deal!

This is a great list! You’re so right; family time is important. Kids grow up so darn fast, which everyone tells you, but you have to find out for yourself. Mine are 13 and 11…inching ever closer to grown. We love to hike, watch movies, and play games. I’m thinking the softball games between families would be awesome! Thanks for sharing! :)
