Olive Oil isn’t just for cooking anymore! This list of 10 Everyday Uses for Olive Oil offers tips on how Olive Oil is amazing for beauty, skin, hair, home remedies, and even around the house!
When it comes to skin care, less is more if you ask me. I don’t like to spend hundreds on bottle after bottle of lotion, hair care, and more. Not to mention the counter clutter drives me nuts! If I could find one or two things that have multipurpose functions then I am a happy camper. Olive Oil is one of my all time favorites, I can use it for so much above and beyond its intended purpose. In our home I buy it by the gallon! No kidding, I divvy it up into several bottles that I keep for different uses around the house. A small bottle on my vanity, one under the kitchen sink, one in the cleaning closet, you get the idea. It’s always on hand!
Don’t worry about buying organic or any specific brand. I have even purchased the store brand, as long as it’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil, you should be good. Organic may be better, but I haven’t seen any difference in using it over the non-organic version. Take a look at the list of everyday uses for Olive Oil, and then head to the warehouse store and stock up!
1. Soften Skin:
Rub your heels with a pumice stone in the shower, then apply olive oil liberally afterwards for silky soft feet. Use olive oil to moisturize your hands instead of lotion. Apply to dry lips to keep them from chapping.
2. Keep Wrinkles Away:
I use olive oil on my face, neck, and chest every night before bed. In the morning my pores look smaller, and I have that dewy look that was natural way back in my 20’s. On the rare night that I forget to apply it, it is immediately apparent the next morning as my skin is noticeably drier. While my skin is certainly not perfect, I am in my early 40’s and still have no wrinkles or lines, I promise this works! Apply the oil, wiping off any excess. Allow it to soak in for about 30 minutes, then hit the sack. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser in the a.m. Bonus points if you are able to get a good 8 hours of sleep!
3. Out Of Your Favorite Body Lotion?
Use olive oil instead! Next time, when the lotion is half way gone, replace the other half with olive oil, mix well. Slather the mixture on after your bath for super silky skin!
4. Frizzy Hair:
Use olive oil to moisturize your tresses! A weekly mask will make even the splittest of ends look healthy. Rub olive oil in your hands and apply it to the ends of your hair (dry). Wait 30 minutes to 1 hour, then wash as usual.
Add a drop or two of olive oil to your palms and rub onto hair when styling instead of serum. Start with the ends and work your way up towards the roots.
5. Got Dandruff?
Mix equal parts olive oil with almond oil and apply on the scalp for several minutes, then wash as usual.
6. Smokey Eye a Little Too Smokey?
Add a few drops of olive oil to a cotton ball and use it as an eye makeup remover.
7. Stainless Steel Appliance Cleaner:
Wipe stainless steel appliances down with vinegar, then apply a coat of olive oil for lasting shine.
8. Furniture Polish:
Skip the costly wood polish! Add olive oil to a clean rag and rub into wood furniture, followed by a clean rag. Voila, shiny furniture in no time!
9. Earache Relief:
Add a little bit of olive oil on a cotton ball and squeeze a couple of drops inside the ear. Also works well to remove extra wax.
10. Prevent Hairballs for Kitty:
A teaspoon of olive oil in cat food helps prevent hairballs and gives your kitty a healthy shiny coat.
