Tonight was Back to School night for my little. He just started the 3rd grade, which to most still seems young, but not to me. A big boy of 8 1/2 now, he’s the starting pitcher of his baseball team, and is doing great in his first year of football, a regular jock. He is just about self-sufficient, and sometimes he even lets go of my hand in public. All I could think of as I sat and listened to his teacher tell us what to expect this school year was, “wasn’t he just in kindergarten”? I am baffled at how quickly time has passed, it’s exciting and yet very sad at the same time. I am trying my best to take every moment in, to be the best Mom I can be, and I know my husband is putting in the same effort. We will never be perfect, but we sure do try to make our boys feel loved and cherished.
At times I wonder how our kids view us. Do they realize the sacrifices we’ve made for them? Do they understand that we discipline them because we love them? That we keep them away from fun things at times because we want what’s best for them? Do they see that we want them to decent and kind adults someday? Will they ever really know how proud of them we are? Will they forgive us for our shortcomings and imperfections?
This video from Office Depot® Office Max® conveys this message perfectly. These parents also wondered how their kids view them. Grab a tissue box and watch…
What you do really does matter, they are absorbing it, even when you don’t think so. Although our kids may not tell us in words per se, I am confident that the answer to the questions I ask myself are a unanimous, yes. I know this because of their actions. They are loving, compassionate, and genuine. Most definitely on their way to becoming the kind and decent adults that we are trying desperately to develop. And when I have asked, they have confirmed, they really do get it!

Well my son is an adult so I’m quite sure his views are on the sarcastic side, but I do know he thinks I”m caring and loyal.
