It’s football season! Normally I wouldn’t care so much, but this year my son is playing flag football for the first time, and he LOVES it!
This means that this mama needs to get on board with it, and fast! I’ve actually been watching football with my boys, asking lots of questions, and learning the gist of the sport.
Hey, if I’m going to add “football mom” to my list of jobs, I better know what I’m talking about, right? So of course with all this football action, there’s gotta be some tailgating action, too!
That can only mean one thing-FOOD! We don’t have a local football team in my area, but we can party it up right from our living rooms, and cheer on my husband’s beloved Tennessee Titans.
My kids love hot dogs, so last Sunday we kicked off the season with the perfect tailgating dish, Hot Dogs with Spicy Tomato Relish. So good, even the kids approved (*high five* Mom)!
What makes these hot dogs stand out from the rest is the creamy relish made with sour cream.
To make these dressed up hot dogs, grill up some dogs, and follow this recipe for Spicy Tomato Relish:

Place the hot dog in a bun and top with sliced avocados, Spicy Tomato Relish, shredded cheese, and jalapeños for an extra punch! The avocados are optional but they do compliment the hot sauce mixture really well, so don’t be shy, pile on those toppings!
For this recipe I used El Yucateco Red Habanero Hot Sauce as well as El Yucateco Black Label Reserve Hot Sauce (available at Walmart in the “Ethnic” aisle). The Black Label Reserve is made from fire roasted habaneros and is distinct in that it has a unique smokey flavor and look. It’s divine combined with chocolate!
While my son’s weekly football games are so much fun, now that I am officially a football fan I think I will need to make it to my first professional football game. I see a trip to Tennessee in my near future! Are you ready for some football?
