As the New Year arrives most of us are thinking about resolutions. This year I am resolving to use my time more efficiently, so I can enjoy life a little more. Typically that would mean slacking on the housework a bit, a small sacrifice, to be able to spend more time with the family and maybe even on myself. The problem is when I do that, I start to stress about the house, bathrooms in particular, not being clean.
BEHIND CLOSED BATHROOM DOORS
Allow me to explain; I am the mom of boys. Three in total if you include the one I’m married to. My husband is wonderful–he does not leave the toilet seat up, nor do the boys so I will admit that I am luckier than most women. However, they do suffer from the same lack of ‘aim’ that most males do. It’s quite the treat to walk into any of the 3 bathrooms in the house and be welcomed by ‘damp’ floors near the toilet (not), EEEW! Wiping it down is not enough, I need to keep that area fresh and clean for all of us. See, that’s when the guilt sets in; I’m out enjoying my family more, while they are coming home to dingy bathrooms, and a messy home. It’s a never ending cycle! This year though I’ve resolved to work smarter, NOT harder. I am determined to make time to enjoy my family and give us all a clean house to live in.
The hardest room to keep clean for me is the bathroom, so over the last couple of weeks I’ve come up with a method that actually works (virtual high five). Do you have the same dilemma? Follow these 5 Easy Steps to Keep the Bathroom Clean Year Round, your family will thank you!
Keep Your Bathroom Clean Year Round!
Step 1: Every morning after your daily routine, wipe down the sink, counter tops, faucets, and toilet with a disinfectant wipe like the Scrubbing Bubbles® Antibacterial Bathroom Wipes. This should take about 30 seconds to do and it will keep your bathroom surfaces sparkling between cleanings. This is a great start, but remember, you won’t get a complete clean by only doing the first step!
Step 2: Every time you use the restroom take a few seconds to pick up anything left on the floor. If you have a husband and children, you know that they have a tendency to drop their clothes on the floor next to the hamper. It’s like there is an invisible shield keeping them from putting their stuff IN to the hamper. Quickly put away hairbrushes or anything left on the counter top.
Step 3: Did you know that according to the Scrubbing Bubbles® Dirty Work Index, 60% of people admit to flushing with the toilet seat up? Doesn’t sound odd, but when you think about all the ‘spraying’ that can occur while the toilet is flushing, it’s downright gross!
Once a week before you head in to the shower, spray Scrubbing Bubbles® Multi Surface Bathroom in the sink, on the counter space and tiles. Let it sit while you shower and when you are out, easily wipe them down with a wet cloth. Scrubbing Bubbles® always works to get rid of the toothpaste and hair product build up that accumulates in my sinks. Since the scent is mild (available in Fresh or Lemon), I can let it work its magic while I shower. This process should add about 5 minutes to your shower routine, just one time per week.
Now that you’re out of the shower, spray Scrubbing Bubbles® in there, and it’ll work while you get ready. You can even leave it as you head out for the day (take the bathroom trash out while you’re at it), and before bed wipe it down with warm water and a sponge. It’s not necessary to leave the product on that long, but this is how I use it, and since I am trying to save on time, this definitely helps!
Step 5: Every once in a while, after using the restroom, give the floors a ‘swift’ clean. You’re already picking up the floors while you visit this room, why not just take 2 minutes to go over it with the mop and easily toss the disposable wipe in the trash.
If you break down the tedious weekly (for some of you bi-weekly or less) task of cleaning the bathrooms into short daily bursts, you will keep a fresh and clean bathroom all year long with very little effort. You’ll have more time to enjoy the very people you are cleaning for, including yourself! Now there’s a resolution I can stick to! What is your New Year’s cleaning resolution?
