I adore holiday decor, I know most of you will agree it really is the most wonderful time of the year {to decorate}! There are so many gorgeous decorations at the stores, and of course Pinterest and others are buzzing with DIY crafts and decor. This year I decorated my mantel as usual, with a little old, a little new, and a little handmade, much like the decor in the rest of my home.
from Michaels:
Twine and Glitter trees
White Glitter Deer
“Meet Me Under the Mistletoe” sign
Small pine tree
Pinecone and cinnamon stick garland
holiday block
from Target:
Stag head {last year’s item}
from Ikea:
Stockings {circa 2005; I use them year and after year–I love them!}
Gold Duck Tape covered frame: wrap small pieces of duck tape around an old frame. Instant gold decor! I heart duck tape!
Popsicle stick tree {Tutorial coming soon!}
Glitter and burlap ornaments {over the stockings and on the pine tree}
Sharpie Houndstooth Plate {Tutorial coming soon!}
The stacked mirrors stay on the mantel year round {until I feel like moving them!}. I painted the frame of the larger one in a distressed white {just spray paint} a few years ago. The smaller mirror is a garage sale find that I painted with Modern Masters metallic paint. I love the way they look on the mantel, and they reflect light nicely in an otherwise semi-dark space.
I don’t worry about reusing items from years past. After all I don’t decorate for a magazine, I decorate my home for real family living, just like you do! On that note, I hardly ever plan out my decor, usually just throwing things in my cart that I like and think will go with other stuff I have. In this case I did the same thing and put it together as I went. I enjoy doing that much more than planning ahead, I get to use my creative instinct which somehow gives me a little more satisfaction once it’s all done. Kind of like look at what I just ‘threw together’–that’s what I tell myself anyway! Overall I’m really pleased with my mantel this year!
To continue with the Mantel theme, I joined with 14 top bloggers in the Christmas Mantel Blog Hop! I hope take a minute to check out these beautiful Christmas Mantels:
