#1 Every bathroom in the house needs to be sparkly clean:
A few days before the event be sure to deep clean the bathrooms. Even if you have a designated guest bathroom, do this for all of the bathrooms in your house. There is always a guest that asks if they could use the upstairs bathroom because Aunt Silvia is using the guest bath. The day before go in and wipe the toilets and counter tops down again, and do the same on the morning of the event, this time clean all of the mirrors, faucets and anything that is shiny.
#2 Declutter your kitchen counter tops and cabinets:
If you are cooking you will need the counters cleared for extra prep space. The cabinets should be nice and neat as well. This is the one time of year where your relatives that offer to help will feel comfortable snooping through your cabinets, fridge, pantry, etc. to assist you in preparing meals and drinks. It’s great to have help, not so great for them to find your collection of random unaccompanied Tupperware lids.
#3 Dust and Shine, Everything In Sight:
If you don’t have time to deep clean the areas where your guests will gather, just grab a duster and pick up every last piece of lint and dust on visible surfaces. Similarly clean all the glass, mirrors, or anything shiny with glass cleaner. Be sure to do a once over the morning of to make sure no tiny fingerprints have made their way back. Those always pop up when you least expect it! The kids can help with this one!
#4 Set the Dinner Table Ahead of Time:
The day of can be hectic, do as much as you can the day before. If you have a designated area for hors d’ ouevres, drinks, dessert, or more, set them up ahead of time. Set the dinner table (s) too. This can take some time to do so the earlier you can get it done and ready, the less time you’ll spend on it come party day. You can spend that time cooking, and even mingling with your guests!
#5 Deep Clean Your Carpets:
If your carpet is dingy or spotty, it will be the first thing noticed when your guests walk in the door. Even before the Christmas tree or they smell the prime rib, they will notice a gross carpet. BISSELL machine formulas with Scotchgard™ Protector clean, refresh, revitalize and protect your carpet for a deep clean from the ground up. The Scotchgard Protector is an amazing stain repellent that repels spills, resists soils and blocks stains to protect your carpet especially when partnered with the BISSELL Upright Deep Cleaning Machine. So your guests will smell a fresh and stain-free carpet. We have very light colored floors, so deep cleaning our carpets is vital to get our house ready for guests, especially around the holidays. Even more important is to clean them after the guests leave, especially when there are children in the mix!

I’ve been coveting these machines! Would love to have one before flu season hits with my daughter who can never seem to find a trash can! ;)

I would love to win this for my Mom. She lives in a home with VERY old carpets & they can’t afford to buy new flooring. Now that she is taking care of my nephew, this would make it easier on her to clean the carpets & feel confident when he’s down on the floor playing. Thanks for the giveaway!

I would LOVE this, Barbara! I have a whole floor of carpeting that is original to the house. It’s on the “to replace” list, but after our slew of renovations, it’s going to have to wait. I’d love to have this on hand!
Fingers crossed!

Great tips (I’m a cleaning fanatic so I love stuff like this) and Bissell products are the best and would make my holiday easier because my carpets need some deep cleaning…they are feeling (and looking) neglected.

It would be a huge help because I am already so embarrassed to have anyone over because the carpet is trashed from the kids. I could clean them and not worry about what other people are thinking. I know I would be less stressed knowing if there is an accident I have the best machine out there that can get the job done! Thanks so much for the chance!
