My youngest just transitioned from Kindergarten to first grade, and my stepson just started middle school so there is a lot of adjusting going on around here! This year my little guy asked me to skip the animated character type back pack and get him a more ‘grown-up’ bag. He’s just 6 years old, so after I got over the fact that he’s growing up and I can’t control it, I agreed.
My one condition was that he has to keep the same (pricey) back pack until atleast 3rd grade, provided it lasts that long, of course. I thought in order to make his plain blue Quiksilver backpack a little ‘special’ we should add his name to it using iron-on vinyl and my Cricut!
It was so easy to do! Using my Cricut cutting machine, I designed and cut out his name {using the ‘mirror image’ setting}.
Note: This post, What is a Cricut machine & How Does it Work? will answer all your Cricut questions!
Following the directions that came with the vinyl, I used a hot dry setting on the iron and ironed it directly on to the backpack, and also to a pencil holder.

The red really ‘pops’ off of that bright blue! This way everyone in class will know who the backpack belongs to and this mommy will feel better knowing that there is still a ‘little kid’ element to it.
Everyone wins..for now :)
