It’s SUMMERTIME! To ring in the season and get ready for the 4th of July, I am crafting in red white and blue, and using a family fave to make a refreshing smoothie. I made an adorable set of napkins!
Well, ok so I didn’t make the napkins, they are just plain white from the store. What I did was use one of my cherished childhood summer staples, Kool-Aid, to make them BETTER!
Yes, the fruit beverage you know and love isn’t only delicious and refreshing, but it makes a great fabric dye.
Kool-Aid Dyed Napkins
How To Dye Fabric With Kool-Aid
Materials:
2 Plastic containers
2 Cups of distilled white vinegar
1 packet of Cherry Kool-Aid
1 packet of Mixed Berry (blue) Kool-Aid
4 rubber bands
2 cloth napkins
Directions:
Add 1 cup of vinegar to each container. Wrap a rubber band around each end of the napkins, allowing an excess of about 4″.
Empty one packet of Kool-Aid into each container, mix well. Dunk each side into one container, and make sure that it’s covered completely.
Let the napkins sit in the Kool-Aid mixture for a few minutes, then remove them and air dry for about 30 minutes.
Once they are just damp, you can throw them in the dryer on low heat for another few minutes until dry.
Consider using rubber bands placed randomly on a t-shirt to create a tie-dye look!
I also made a tasty tropical smoothie with Kool-Aid! I picked up a 96oz. bottle, and with just a few more ingredients made a refreshing summer drink.
I am going to make a t-shirt next, and I think I’ll soak it in the red Kool-Aid a little longer for a deeper hue, although I love the way these napkins turned out!
How can you use Kool-Aid in a creative way?

Those napkins came out so cute- almost a little pastel- perfect for beach settings (here in SoCal). We will be drinking lots of Kool-Aid this Summer! #Client
