Updated Master Bathroom

Thanks to Supply.com for sponsoring this post!

Whooooweeeeee! It’s been busy around here!  Not only have I been trying to recover from the holidays but just about as soon as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, I threw myself into my master bathroom and started on a mini-makeover.  See, we bought this house 2 1/2 years ago and have put our mark on just about every space.  Every space that is, except our personal grown-up spaces! The master bedroom, and master bath have gone completely ignored in favor of rooms that guests will most likely see.  Towards the end of the year I started to think how nice it would be to actually enjoy getting ready, or take a bath in a pretty bathroom again.

Bathroom Makeover

First thing we did was give it a good coat of paint.  The olive green paint ‘design’ it had when we bought the house is straight from the 1990’s.  I know this because I lived it, and I painted many a room in this magical ‘sponge paint’ treatment back then.  I was rocking the sky blue sponge paint in my room, and I was cool.  Way back then.

Then we updated the old faucets!  These faucets were original to the house, which was built in 1986 by the way.

The pipes below weren’t in any better shape.  My brother in-law had to give us a hand with this because this turned out to be more than the hubs and I could handle.  However, other than the pipes hiccup, the faucets were installed easily.

I took a couple of shots to share on Instagram during the process:

Aren’t these faucets gorgeous? They’re the Pfister Avalon Tuscan Bronze 2-Handle Widespread Bathroom Sink Faucets, and I’m in love every ounce of these bad boys!  The Avalon Bath Collection offers smooth and sleek curves, and is the perfect complement to any bath, certainly to mine!  One of my favorite features: Pforever Seal – it’s an advanced ceramic disc valve technology with a never leak guarantee!  You read that right..NEVER LEAK!  The Pfister Pforever Warranty® covers finish and function for life!

Next I gave the old beige cabinet a new look with a coat of paint.  Once again, I turned to chalk paint® and one coat did it!  I sealed it with polyurethane in a satin finish so it’ll endure regular wear and tear.

…of course the cabinets aren’t complete without new accessories!  Glass knobs and brushed bronze cup pulls-new hardware pulls the look together!

The old brass light fixtures and mirror frames got an update with some spray paint! We used Rustoleum Espresso in a satin finish and covered up all that dated brass.

Lastly, it’s time to decorate!  This is my favorite part because I get to shop for pretty stuff!  I did go on a mini shopping spree, but rest assured my friends, I was very budget conscious!  I shopped at Target, T.J. Maxx, and Homegoods, and got some great stuff!

I was even able to get a little crafty!  I purchased a silver frame on clearance at T.J Maxx for a mere $3 and put a small swatch of fabric inside where the picture goes, then laid it flat.  This now acts as a new perfume tray!

This shelf was repurposed from my kitchen.  It’s a great spot to hold extra towels!

Updated Master Bathroom New #Pfister #faucets, paint, and accessories!

My bathroom had good bones, it just need a little love, and it took me over 2 years to give it some!  A new coat of paint on the walls and cabinets, new faucets, new linens and accessories and its completely transformed!

I’m hoping to update our shower head and eventually the tub, and yes..I will get to that master bedroom!  As a DIY’er I’ve learned that patience is definitely a virtue, so I know it will happen…soon!

Which space in your home have you been putting off?

Barbara – can I ask you if you had poly on the bathroom cabinets before you did the chalk paint. I am looking at redoing the bath vanity in my guest bathroom with chalk paint also but it is wood and has a poly finish on it now. I believe I would have to sand and then chalk paint and seal again with poly. Just wanted to know if you had a shiny surface pre-painting and the prep time at all.

      Susan,
Yes there was a dull poly on the cabinets prior to painting (probably original from the 80’s). I just cleaned the cabinets well before painting, no other prep at all. I am not an expert but I can say that every experience I’ve had with this paint has made sanding and or stripping ahead of time unnecessary. Good luck!
