Happy Tuesday peeps! We are just under 3 weeks away from Christmas and I’m finally getting to put together my holiday mantel! Don’t judge, I’ll keep it up till New Year’s, ok? I knew you’d understand!
2013 Christmas Mantel
As usual, I mixed a little old with a little new. I shopped my house, and reused a few items from last year, but overall I think it turned out quite nicely! Here’s a mini mantel tour:
First up, the wreath! Easily put together with duct tape (Duck brand), clothespins, and an embroidery hoop! Find the full tutorial at The Ribbon Retreat Blog.
On the left side of the mantel, I made small classic holiday scenes in jars.
This project is partially sponsored by my 5 year old, who graciously loaned me a couple of his cars. There’s no real tutorial here; a couple of old jars (the big one is a glass drink dispenser with the spout temporarily removed), trees and more borrowed from my Christmas village, a little baker’s twine, and hot glue.
No cars were harmed in the making of this project (yes I had to make this promise).
For a festive look I wrapped the edges of the jar lids in red and cream washi tape.
In the center, I reused the stocking holders from last year’s Christmas mantel, which are surprisingly holding last year’s stockings. I did change it up a little by filling the backs of the little frames with strips of the washi tape.
Lastly, on the right hand side you’ll find my new stag head (deer head), a bird cage, and a simple ‘Happy Holidays’ sign.
The stag head was a birthday gift from one of my closest friends, Emily (thanks Em!). It’s from Target and it’s AWESOME! It can be hung up on the wall, but in this case it’s just leaning. The bird cage is from Michael’s, I simply filled it with remnants from our Christmas tree. They’re real, so I’m hoping they stay green until New Year’s. Finally, the sign was a thrift store find from last year.
I keep thinking I’ll move the large mirror to another part of the house, but I just can’t seem to make that happen. I love it over the mantel, and so until I stop loving it there, there it shall stay. Perhaps in another color someday? Who knows!
There you have it, my Christmas Mantel for 2013 (finally). Did you notice that houndstooth patterned plate behind the jars? I’ll show you how I did that simply, and quickly, next week!
Have you decorated your mantel for Christmas?

Crystal, thank you! If you don’t have a mantel a shelf in a prominent spot can do the trick too!
