Well hello friends! Hope this has been a great week for you so far!
Yesterday I shared my Painted Kitchen Island with you..
If you look carefully, you can see a stool peeking out from behind the island. That stool is part of a pair that I bought a garage sale last year for $1 each. I know, I probably overpaid.
They were stripped, sanded, and painted a cheery red. I also distressed them and stained the edges to make them look aged. Lastly, I painted a ‘union jack’ pattern on the seats under a dark stain.
I still think the red looks great, but as you know earlier this month I went on a mission to lighten up the kitchen and dining area, so the bold color just didn’t work in the space anymore {boo!}. Along with new board and batten, new wall color, and painted kitchen island, they also got a tranformation!
Just two light coats of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in ‘Cream’, covered the bright red without having to prime and or sand beforehand.
Updated Stools
I added a very light coat of Annie Sloan Soft Wax in a ‘dark’ to finish it up.
Chalk Paint is so thick and rich, and goes on incredibly smoothly, a very small amount goes a very long way! So far I’ve painted both stools and a chair and still have a little over 3/4 of the can left.
I still really love the ‘union jack’ so I left the seats as is, so the cream paint pops, especially combined with the Duck Egg Blue kitchen Island…LOVE!
I’m still working on the kitchen makeover, and will be sharing more of my painting adventures very soon. I just can’t stop painting with Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan! I’m not kidding I have at least 2 more painted pieces completed, and some wall art that I’m working on. I may have a problem!
Have you tried Chalk Paint? What have you transformed with it?

I’m trying to convince my husband that it won’t cost $400 in paint to refo our island with Annie Sloan. How much paint did you use to redo yours?
Barbara @ Chase the Star says
Stephanie, I used less than half a quart of Chalk Paint® for the kitchen island. That was 2 coats and included the inside of the cabinet doors! It’s a FANTASTIC deal especially compared to what your husband thinks it would cost! Good luck!

Love the subtle Union Jack. Do you have a tutorial for making it? You say you painted it on the seat under a dark stain. Did you literally paint the stripes and then stain over the whole thing?
