TGIF lovelies! This week I worked on a piece that was desperate for some attention, a cute little side table!
With some help from the Modern Masters Metallic Paint collection, it was brought back to life.
The side table was a Craigslist find a couple of years ago. Over time the paint the original owner used did not hold up well.
She’s seen some better days.
This side table is made out of particle board (pressed wood) so I couldn’t just sand the ugliness off, like I normally would.
I used Modern Masters Metallic Paint in ‘Pewter’ to add a little bit of a regal look!
How to Update Furniture with Metallic Paint
Since the piece isn’t real wood, I was able to skip most of the prep, i.e. heavy sanding.
I simply added a coat of white primer (with a paint brush) over both pieces. Once dry I went over them both lightly with a sanding block to remove any drip marks and smooth it all out. O.k so I did sand, but just a little!
Then I added 2 coats of the Modern Masters paint. It went on as smooth as silk! I’m not kidding, it was so easy to spread the paint, and it covered really well with the Metallic Paint Roller. For the smaller areas I used a foam brush, which worked beautifully!
Lastly, I added two coats of the Master Clear Protective Top Coat to protect my work.
So what do you think? Simple and lovely, right? Here’s your chance to WIN part of the fabulous Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection!

Wow! Looks great! Did you apply the top coat with a brush or with the special roller? Thanks!
Barbara @ Chase the Star says
Hi Teri, I used a brush for the top coat. Thanks for asking!
Teri says
Thank you for the quick response!! Did you have any brush marks with the top coat? It doesn’t look like it in your photos. Do you mind telling me what kind of brush you used? Thanks again! :)
Barbara @ Chase the Star says
Teri, you’re so welcome! If I remember correctly it was just a bristle brush. I love Purdy but usually use any angled tip brush I can find at the store. Good luck!
