Happy Wednesday my friends! Hope you’re having a great week so far. Allow me to show you what I’ve been up to..
Updated Wood Planter
See, I had this redwood planter sitting in my garage for over a year. I bought a pair of them last year, and one of them became our Herb Garden planter…
…. while the other, well just sat in my garage.
It was finally time to dust it off and give it some life!
I used Outdoor Patio Paint by DecoArt in these adorable tropical shades. They reminded me my teenage summers on the beach in Miami–I so wanted a piece of that in my backyard!
The paint is rich and went on so smoothly. I applied it with a foam brush, and two coats was all it took.
I wanted to give it an aged look so once the paint was dry, I brushed on a little dark stain, and wiped it off. Super fast technique!
A quick coat of outdoor polyurethane in a satin finish is all it took to seal the paint.
The boys wanted to try their hand at gardening so they planted some fresh purple flowers in the newly prettified planter!
It was awesome watching them work together. Big bro guiding little bro, as they both learned something new.
They did a great job and seem to have inherited Dad’s green thumb!
Even with the distressed finish the colors are bright and lively. Easy project that even the kid’s can get in on!
By the way the planters were about $30 each at Home Depot, and they are great quality. You may even consider using a thrift store planter, or if you can get your hands on a pallet or wood planks, build one!
What have you DIY’d in your yard this summer?
