Hey friends! It’s time to start planning for Dad’s day!
I whipped up a gift for my dad, it was fun, fast, and super easy to make. He likes wine so I decorated a wine bottle for him!
The great team at Basic Grey was kind enough to send me some scrap-booking goodies to work with. I am not a big ‘scrap-booker’ per se, so I used the supplies to decorate my Dad’s wine bottle instead:)
Here’s how you can make one of these DIY Father’s Day Gifts:
Gather up your supplies:
Glass bottle
Craft paper
Mod Podge (or another decoupage medium)
Wide brush
Small plate (I used an old pie tin)
Scissors
Clear glue (school glue is fine)
Jute twine (optional)
Decorative embellishments (part of my Basic Grey goodies!) I used some of the smaller ‘game pieces’. There were also some adorable ‘Scrabble’ pieces that I love!
The craft paper pack is huge! So many fun prints to choose from.
Step 1: Cut the pieces of craft paper to size. I decided to layer 3 different patterns.
Step 2: Prepare your Mod Podge mixture {instructions below} and soak your paper strips in it.
Make sure the entire piece is covered. Remove the paper from the mixture and using your fingertips, gently press out the excess Mod Podge mixture from the paper.
Step 3: Add the paper to the bottle. Smooth on with your fingertips, and blot out extra liquid with a damp paper towel.
Here’s where you can get creative! Have fun layering the paper!
Step 4: Glue the embellishments on.
I spelled out #cooldad (complete with the ‘hashtag’ cause he’s also a modern dad!), and from the last ‘d’ I spelled out ‘Grandpa’, cause well he’s that too!
Step 5: Top it off! I used the jute twine around the bottle neck top and base. You can use ribbon, leather, or anything else the Dad in your life would like.
Would your dad or husband enjoy one of these? If they don’t drink wine you can do the same with a beer mug.
Another option would be to decorate a coffee can or jar in the same way for use as a pencil holder. Use your imagination and make something fun for Dad!
Are you going to DIY Father’s Day gifts this year?
