Any Chris Tomlin fans out there? I love his music, whether we’re singing it during worship at church or my son’s blaring out “I Will Follow” in the car. I was given the fabulous opportunity to attend the Chris Tomlin Burning Lights Tour {Transparent Productions} in Orange County last weekend, and JUMPED at the chance! Yes, I literally jumped. Ask my kids, they thought I was weirder than usual!
I was really excited for the concert, and thrilled that opening act was Kari Jobe. She has such an amazing voice, she reminds me of early Sarah Maclachlan, which I’m also a huge admirer of.
I took my bestie Jodee, also a big Chris Tomlin fan, and made it a fun girls night.
When you’re married with children, those are few and far between, so this concert was extra special for us! We went to an early and quick dinner at Corner Bakery and took off! *Thumbs up* to our waiter Tyler, for taking this pic from my cell phone..
We raced down the freeway to Irvine (South OC) and were doing great on time. We were going to get there early enough to buy some drinks, visit the potty, find our seats, chit-chat and mingle, without any rush at all.
I’ve lived in Socal going on a decade and still haven’t learned. We made it all the way to the freeway exit and were slowed down to a complete halt, about a ½ mile from the off ramp-for an HOUR. Sixty minutes of frustrated people hopping out of their cars in an attempt to walk the rest of the way to the concert, and catch the opening act. My Kari Jobe!! I was not one of those people. I was driving. Otherwise, I would’ve joined them (sorry Jodee you would’ve been stuck there alone!).
{You can see the venue sign from the freeway, as we were at stand-still}
We finally made it to our seats at about 8, an hour after the concert had started. Chris had just gotten on the stage. I was bummed to have missed Kari Jobe, but still thrilled to be there in time to see Chris Tomlin!
He was great! So personable, and sang all of the great songs that we’ve grown to love, as well as new songs from the Burning Lights album. If you’ve never been to a Christian music concert, you’d think it was the biggest karaoke party you’ve ever been to! The words are written on the jumbo screen. Not just so you won’t mess them up, (thank you) but so you can sing along and worship God!
About halfway through Chris’ set Louis Giglio took the stage. He discussed the prodigal son parable in the bible– how God will take you back with open arms, no matter how far ‘gone’ you may be. He’s a great speaker; hilarious, charismatic, and very effective in getting the message across. I really enjoyed listening to Louis Giglio!
Chris sang several more songs, and then re-introduced Kari Jobe to the stage! I was thrilled to see her because I had missed her entire set! She sang “Holy, Holy, Holy”, yes I sang along. Aloud, really loud! {Apologies to my seat neighbors}
The 21st century version of the lighter, the iphone light app was in full effect all over the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.
The place was jam packed with people worshiping and enjoying the concert!
They wrapped up this leg of the Burning Lights tour with a bang! Chris sang his new dance song “God’s Great Dance Floor” and then ginourmous bouncing balls came out of the stage and were thrown into the crowd! The artists and musicians were dancing on the stage and having the best time doing it. The crowd was jumping and trying to dodge the bouncing balls.
It was so much fun!
What a FANTASTIC way to end the night!
We were lucky enough to be sitting next to Angelina from Jojo and Eloise, that’s her with ‘yours truly’ on the left. She is so sweet!! Watching her beautiful 11 year old daughter worship God with such passion made my whole night!
Jodee and I are on the right in the ‘selfie’ cause that’s what we do!
Speaking of worship, I caught Jodee doing just that….
We had a blast! I left there with recharged batteries, ready to continue praising the Lord. It was such a great night!
If you follow me on instagram (@chasedastar), you may remember me blowing it up with pics all night!
